ARTIST STATEMENT

I create abstract pieces, using primarily acrylic and pigments, but I combine this with a variety of other media such as gold, silver leaf and pastels. I enjoy making my own paint from powder pigments, such as slate, iron oxide or chalk.

Texture is integral to my work and I enjoy freely evolving this through the layering of materials, pouring paint, developing areas as they emerge. I work with a variation of tools, to create a diversity in my mark making.

My paintings are an abstract memories of experiences of the natural world. I'm particularly drawn to the sky and water, as a symbols of freedom and happiness. Art for me is a form of meditation and a way to achieve peace, a journey that unfolds different parts of my inner self.

I hope my work will inspire, and the viewer will get lost in the composition and the detail of the painting, seeing something new every time they study the piece.
